by Kristen Heitzman
Police Chief Jonah Westfall is battling his own personal demons, knows the dark side of life and has committed himself to eradicating it. When a pair of raccoons are found mutilated in Redford, Colorado, Jonah investigates the gruesome act, knowing the strange event could escalate and destroy the tranquility of his small mountain town. With a rising drug threat and never-ending conflict with Tia Manning, a formidable childhood friend with whom he has more than a passing history, Jonah fights for answers—and his fragile sobriety. There are more animal mutilations and he has to find the killer before it is to late. Who is the killer and will Jonah's life change?
This is an exciting psychological thriller .. one of my favorite types of books to read. Kristen has certainly assembled an interesting cast of characters. The premise of the book is a little disturbing, as you would expect from a psychological thriller, but I had to keep putting that aside. Interesting events keep up the pace, I like the romance that is woven throughout, faith and reliance on prayer is common thread. The ending, while I guessed it about 80% through, was still a bit of a twist. ENJOY!
