Question on Landlines - Opinions Needed

I would love your opinion.  We went "cell phone only" over a year ago, and it really stresses me out because the whole family is not trained yet to keep cell phones available, charged, and volume turned up.  I want to add a landline back BUT don't want to add trouble by getting other people's old phone numbers/calls.  The phone company wants $50 to give me back my old phone number.  (Rotten money grubbers ... really?? You'd think they'd be happy to ADD service instead of having it canceled.)

Worth it or not?  I know it's a personal choice but am conflicted.  My husband is totally against it but of course he's someone I can't always reach when I'm at work and he's home, out of reach due to above .....!
