Wizard of Oz ideas

Help! I joined a Wizard of Oz swap and not I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING OZish to swap!! I've been looking everywhere all summer. I found lots online but the postage is HORRIBLE! I'm going to make an apron with Wiz fabrics, of course, but what else can I send!?! Do you have ideas that aren't official oz but could work? I'm not feeling very creative these days ... the start of school has almost pushed me over the edge between work, trying to find a rental house to move before school starts and getting T ready for back to school.

Thanks friends!

It's Award Time

Jenna Z at SwapDex was so extremely kind to award the Flirty Apron Swap blog the Brilliante Weblog Award! If you've not visited Jenna's blog, you are in for a treat. She keeps information about all the swaps going on in Blogland and it is SO MUCH WORK. And I love it! I got there all the time for ideas and to join a swap or two.

Jenna decided to award her nominations to those bloggers that handle the other end of the swaps, the hosting. "These are all Hostesses that preside over ongoing rounds of swaps, a project I don't think I could ever take on! ...And Shawnee for her Flirty Apron Swaps! Love the apron swaps!"

The rules of the award are:
1. The winner can put the logo on her blog.
2. Link the person you received your award from.
3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs.
4. Put links of those blogs on yours.
5. Leave a message on the blogs of the girls you’ve nominated

Debye at C Berry Baby Boutique - here's her blog and website. Wait until you see all her creative designs. She was also my partner in the Celebrating Independence Flirty Apron Swap and made me a beautiful apron.

Lucy at My Byrd House - I know others have nominated her too, but I regularly visit both her personal blog and the Sassy Apron Swap blog. If you like great tutorials, fun stories and cute aprons, I suggest you run on over the Lucy's house! Oh, and she self-published a cute apron pattern too that you need; it's available at her Etsy shop. If she's briefly sold out, send her a convo and I think you're in luck.

Val at Yarni Gras - Val and I are both apron freaks who also crochet (OK, I'm the only freak, she's just crazy). Anyway, you should head on over to her fun blog. The best part is she regularly updates with all sorts of amusing stories, pictures and crafts!

Laurie C posts so many cute projects on her blog "Really, Let me just finish this row" that I had to nominate her. Warning: if you don't like adorable little girls or handsome soldier husband pictures, stay away.

Mary from Las Vegas has a great crafting blog to watch. She posts lots of knitting and crochet posts, plus you'll see her sweetie pie doggies every Thursday.

Linda Ruthie is fairly new to blogging and is an avid vintage apron pattern collector. Her posts make me drool.

Sherry at Creations From My Heart has the girliest blog in all of blogland. Check it out. She does amazing paper crafts, aprons and has a custom drapes business. One talented lady!

Enjoy some blog surfing!!

Apron Update

I've been staying busy on the sewing machine, too. I am making two more aprons for my students, one for a gal who missed the last class and one for someone who really wanted a different one. Then, I gave away a pair of gloves but wanted to make them match her apron so had to wait for her to choose one. The winner and her best friend are the ones who gave me the gorgeous bouquet of flowers so I'm go to make two pairs of gloves. I also still need to mail Dorothy's gloves (I've been showing them off) and create special gloves for Karen at the FAS.

I have finished two swap aprons and am almost done with the third. First, here's my favorite, a cowgirl apron made for Val's Hittin' the Trail Cowboy Apron Swap. I just love the pinup girl fabric. I bought some more of this fabric at a little shop in Long Beach WA that is going out of business. If you hurry, I bet you can call and order some of your own. They still had some of the white background, yellow background and pink background (I bought up all the black and some of the pink). I don't find in on their website so you may need to call and ask for it. J and O Fabrics.com also carries this.

I think this apron is my husband's favorite ... he's think it turned so very elegant. My partner, Karen, says she likes it, too, and already has it hanging in her kitchen. The theme was Parasols, Pink Lemonade and Polka Dots. I found the facing material first, with all the gorgeous asian parasols .... so I added an Asian sub-theme to my package and created this chic apron. It was fun matching up the pocket perfectly so as not to distract from the from scene.

Lastly, I bought this gorgeous vintage pinup Bewitched fabric from Alice's ebay store but she's sold out -- J and O has some in, though. The print is a bit larger than I had imagined but I love it. I'll have my sweetheart apron mailed off tomorrow and then HAVE to make one for me.

Catch-Up Post (warning long)

I have a bunch of pictures to share, so feel free to scroll through.
Trevor's birthday was on the 20th and we had a BBQ for his friend's on Tuesday the 22nd - which was also a cooking class night for me so I missed most of the fun. But Tatum and I did take him to lunch on his birthday. Check out his dorky post. Then, we were so busy that we asked him to pick out whatever cake he liked ... hmmph!
Bye Ringo:
My dad's dog is gone now. He was about 17 years old, could barely walk, no teeth, partially blind and loyal like you wouldn't believe. We had to have him put down on Wednesday the 30th. Here's his last picture, even though he didn't want me to take it.

County Fair:
Every year, I take one week off of work to just be with DD so she's not in daycare and we call it Mommy Camp. We had a less-fun-than-normal week since I was working on my class, Trevor's bday BBQ and then with Ringo, but we did manage to get one huge adventure out of Thursday at the Washington County Fair. Thursday was ride bracelet day, so I took Little T and her best friend for five hours of non-stop fun. I managed to keep them sunscreened up but I got a killer burn. The topper of our day was when T got sick on the car on the way home ... she's such a barfer (sorry if that's TMI). We also picked blueberries one day, lunched out at a fun Italian restaurant, and painted out hearts out at our local DIY ceramic shop, The Painted Plate.
