Felted Purses - Handles

I've been felting purses like crazy and have come up with my own version of handle that works nicely, ends up like the knit I-Cord. Pardon my pattern writing, as this is my first attempt.

Shawnee's Corded Handle (on both green/black purses):
I start in one corner of the bag/purse and chain 72 (or 108), slip stitch to attach on opposite of purse.
Row 1: Chain 2, slip stitch near join on purse, half-double crochet in each chain across(I prefer to work in the hump, but normal way works, too); slip stitch to beginning side of purse.
Row 2: Chain 2, slip stitch near original start, half-double crochet in each stitch across; slip stitch to purse.
Row 3: Chain 2, slip stitch to purse. (Half-double crochet in next stitch, slip stitch to Row 1 half-double crochet) repeat across; slip stitch to purse and fasten off.

This forms a triangle-shaped tube that felts up beautifully. You could also make this tube separately and then sew on, but I personally hate hand-sewing and avoid it at all costs!

Second Handle I've Created (on blue/green Jackie O Bag):
Shawnee's Twisted Handle (can use one strand of wool or two stands in contrasting colors)
I start in one corner of the bag/purse (join yarn if I've already fastened off), and chain 72 (or 108); turn
Row 1: Chain 2, half-double crochet in each chain across(I prefer to work in the hump, but normal way works, too); slip stitch to beginning side of purse; do not fasten off.
2nd Strap: Chain 72 (or 108) again; turn
2nd Row 1: Chain 2, half-double crochet in each chain across(I prefer to work in the hump, but normal way works, too); slip stitch to beginning side of purse.

Twist these two staps together, then slip stitch both straps several times to the opposite side purse and fasten off.

For a slightly different effect, I've made three longer straps, braided them, then attached to other side of bag (on small black/pink bag).

I'm Liking This Green!

I've almost finished the back of the Jiffy Cardigan. I think I do like this color, it's VERY soft to the touch and has just used half of the large Jo-ann Sensations Rainbow Boucle skeins -- they're on sale for $6 for the 11 ounces so what a deal! I bought three skeins since the yardage requirements seemed high for this pattern but I may have extra.

I also have purchased this yarn in shades of blue, specifically for the Seraphina Shawl (also known as batwing shawl). I'm looking forward to trying it. I hope it will turn out as good as this one ....

It's Done

I'm so happy to report that I finished my Skipping Stones Circular Afghan, in record time! This is a gift for my daughter's very special bible study leader, Debbie. She's been amazing to Tess, especially these past few months while Mike's foot was broken. Debbie spent several hours taking Tess driving, and helped her get her license using Debbie's van (all ours are stick-shift). I started this last week, worked on it during retreat, and finished it a few nights ago. However, I spent WAY more than I planned due to my yarn substitution. I used Lions Brand Woolease Thick and Quick and it ended up taking 17 skeins! At $6 a skein, I really hope she likes it!! I'd like to make another one, using the suggested Chunky/5 yarn rather than the Bulky/6 and we'll see just how many skeins it SHOULD have taken. =)

My newest WIP is the Adult Jiffy Cardigan that my Crochet-a-Long group is doing. I'm using this funky Rainbow Sensations, trying to decide if I love it or not. It's very soft and lime green is "in" right now .... we'll see.

My mother-in-love, Karen, has her birthday next week and I'm just finishing the CAL Chanson en Crochet Capelet in kid mohair/merino from LYS. The lavendar and softness of the pattern just suits her.

Snow Day!

I love late-start days ... just a little extra time to catch up on stuff at home, like laundry, dishes, Posting to my blog. I wanted to share some pictures of work finished:

The Olympic Scarf that wears me instead of the other way around. It took a while to put together but just isn't me.

My first felted bag. I really like it -- next time, no fun fur around the shoulder strap or top of bag. It was a vintage pattern for thread; I substituted wool, added fancy fur and Bling Bling occasionally and felted.

The much anticipated Cutting Edge Green Shrug (in EXTRA small). It was a fast work up, but the upper back is too small even for my teenage daughters. Maybe e-bay with the proper measurements.

This Fabulously Fashionable Poncho is made with Lion Brand Chenille ... a gift for a friend with a St. Patrick's birthday, I just love it and it worked up quickly.

Solomon's Knot Prayer Shawl: This beauty is my own adaptation of the Lion Brand Pattern, made using some Boucle yarn won in the Michael's Fastest Crocheter contest. For one of my dear nursery workers, it was much appreciated. I have a yellow Homespun on the hook.
