Olympics, Day 13

We're coming into the home stretch and, even though I've not posted much, I've been a busy Olympian. I have almost all of the components for my Floribunda Scarf completed. I've actually done more than needed because alot of my original colors didn't seem right so I went a little crazy and bought a few more skeins. In the picture, there are two options for a scarf base - original on the left and new on the right; lots of flowers even though I only need 9; will use 18 leaf clusters (not shown), the 2 flat flowers and 18 rosebuds, along with 9 bell flower pairs. I'm going to take it all to work for a little expert advice on my flower arranging, then I have to use all those tail ends to sew on the pieces. You know, I like sewing but DISLIKE hand-sewing... oh well, it's for Team Eclectic!

Olympics, Day 4

Well, I was able to start about 2 hours after the opening ceremonies during lunch break at work. My first flower - this gorgeous creamsicle color, Patons Divine Orangina.

Didn't get to work on it Day 2 since we were knee-deep in renovations, but managed to get the scarf base done before church on Day 3, along with a few roses and leaf stems. I ended up going with the shaded pink rather than the brown I originally thought, because the brown just turned out too drab.

Today, a few more stems, some bell flowers and another couple of roses ... this is going a bit faster than I thought. I'm not very excited about sewing it together since I don't have a super-creative mind but I'll do my best. Playing with lots of possibilities for other flowers since I have a nice stash of fun yarn but some feel some are a bit "over the top". How's your Olympic event coming??

Another New Work In Progress (WIP) - Cutting Edge Green Shrug

Just got the Cutting Edge and HAVE to make this gorgeous shrug. Of course, I started immediately and it's TOO small using the N hook recommended. I've begun again using the Q and much better. When I measured the armhole this morning, it would have been only 8.5" with my N hook! My 7yoDD has a 10" upper arm!! I haven't joined yet but am excited to see this come together.

I've also consulted with my NY Consultant, Peach, who gave me the encouragement to go on. Hugs to Peach!! I'm making a quick gift for one of my 17yoDD's best friend's birthday but I anticipate having to make more....

....UPDATE
I am an official idiot. My gauge was SO FAR off, and I know why. I'm using Wool-Ease CHUNKY not THICK & QUICK. Chunky is a Cat 5 where T&Q is Cat 6-- This is what happens when you work (purchase) from memory. It's still cute! Pictures when I can.

I'm Getting Overwhelmed ....

After not crocheting for 10 or more years except for Christmas-time, I've suddenly picked it up again with a passion. I think it's because my personal life is so hectic that I'm retreating in an area where I can be successful, creative and get some instant gratification ... plus SHOP! LOL!! It's all because of finding Crochet Partners.

On the hook right now:
Felted Handbag (really done, just need to find a washing machine to felt)
Black Popcorn Shrug from Crochet Calendar
Ticker Tape Cardigan (70% off at Michaels)
Little Girls Ladybug Purse for Valentines
Simona's Scarf (Clover stitch)
ALMOST on the hook - Floribunda Scarf for Crochet Olympics

Just finished:
Star Baby Afghan in Baby Teri
Lion Brand Chenille Poncho with Special Ribbon Fringe ((feels like the Suede -forgot to take a picture before gifting)
Simply Skinny Scarf for Valentines (picture is designer's, not mine)
Swirl Cape

WIM:
Hearts In a Row Scarf for Valentines
CAL Toe-Up Socks - got GORGEOUS yarn at LYS
CAL Snoozy Puppy
CAL Chanson en Crochet Capelet in kid mohair/merino from LYS
Prayer Shawls for two of my nursery helpers at church
Really cool shopping bag made from Home Depot Colored Twine

So much delicious yarn, so little time ....

Crochet Olympics

I'm going to sign up at my LYS and on Crochetville. Here's my "artists rendition" of my project: the gorgeous Floribunda Scarf on a brown base, with flowers in shades of pink and green leaves. Wish me luck!

I found this gorgeous pattern after a recommendation on Crochet Partners. It's designed by Carolyn Christmas Designs and available on ebay. It was a download for only $7.99. THUD

As so it begins....

I've decided to join the high-tech world and create a place to share the many facets of my life: my large and funny family, our Thyme for Fun Cooking Parties and foodie info, my renewed crocheting passion, the excitement of my husband being unemployed and now in a cast, and anything else that comes to my 40-year-old mis-firing brain!
